CCMA Makes a Bold Move! Foreign Doctors Visit Chinese Hospitals for Observation and Learning
time:June 29, 2017

On the 11th of this month, in response to the strong demand from foreign expert doctors, the organizing committee of the CCMA2016 conference, which lasted for three days, organized a visit to Chinese hospitals for foreign doctors.

According to Mr. Liangjun Sun, the Secretary-General of CCMA, after the launch of the planning for the second forum in June of this year, nearly 20 medical organizations and hospitals from around 20 countries registered. In the end, nearly 60 foreign doctors participated in the conference, including over 10 experts with top international ablation proficiency and representatives of more than 40 outstanding clinical doctors from various hospitals. The visit of these foreign clinical doctors to China is aimed at closely listening to lectures by top-notch oncology experts from both domestic and international fields, as well as learning about the leading technology of "microwave ablation" in China.

Prof. Alexis Kelekis, Chairman of the World Conference on Interventional Oncology (WCIO) International Committee, praised the CCMA forum for demonstrating a high level of internationalization and specialization in the field of microwave ablation. Additionally, he acknowledged that the forum provided abundant opportunities for surgical learning to the attending foreign doctors, which the WCIO can learn from.

First Stop: Jiangsu Province Hospital

On the afternoon of the 11th at 14:00, more than twenty representatives of doctors from Europe, Asia, and Africa visited Jiangsu Province Hospital. Prof. Zhengqiang Yang from the Interventional Department provided a detailed introduction to the department's development of microwave ablation technology to the visiting doctors. They also arranged an observation of liver tumor microwave ablation surgeries. This visual approach facilitated a better learning and absorption experience for the foreign doctors.

On the morning of the 12th at 9:00, four doctors from the United Kingdom and India visited the Oncology Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital for observation and learning. Prof. Boqiang Fan  from the Oncology Department performed two thyroid ablation surgeries. After the surgeries, Professor Fan addressed the clinical challenges raised by the foreign experts and provided detailed explanations and answers.

Second Stop: The Second Hospital of Nanjing

On the afternoon of the 11th at 14:00, over twenty representatives of doctors from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East visited the Second Hospital of Nanjing for observation and learning. Prof. Qin Zheng, the Vice President of the hospital, and Prof. Huaiyin Ding from the Radiology Department, introduced the cases to the foreign experts and organized an observation and learning session for thyroid ablation procedures.

Third Stop: Shandong Provincial Hospital

On the morning of the 13th at 11:00, Dr. Christine Chavez from the Philippines and Dr. Lorant Kecskes from Hungary visited the East District of Shandong Provincial Hospital. They were welcomed by Professor Xin Ye, the Chief of the Oncology Department, and his medical team. They were given the opportunity to observe the procedures performed by Dr. Ye in the operating room, gaining a firsthand understanding of the microwave ablation technique for tumor treatment.

Chinese Microwave Ablation Technology Takes the Lead Internationally

"Our hospital adds more than 2,000 lung cancer patients every year, and they are mostly treated using conventional methods. We hope to introduce microwave ablation technology and become the first pilot hospital for minimally invasive tumor treatment," said Dr. Lorant Kecskes.

Dr. Lorant Kecskes is a radiologist at Korányi Hospital, the largest lung disease treatment hospital in Budapest, Hungary, with extensive experience in biopsy punctures. It is understood that there is still a significant gap in the Hungarian market regarding microwave technology, and currently, there are very few hospitals in Hungary performing minimally invasive procedures. Doctors in Hungary are highly interested in microwave ablation technology, and Dr. Lorant Kecskes, as a representative of an excellent hospital, came to China to learn about lung microwave ablation technology and plans to implement microwave treatment projects upon his return.

Prof. Dimitrios Filippiadis from Attikon University General Hospital in Greece stated that China's microwave ablation technology is leading and innovative in the international medical field. The procedures performed by Chinese oncologists are highly scientific, and all medical staff are dedicated. This observation and learning experience will contribute to the improvement of the clinical application level of microwave ablation worldwide. It is hoped that CCMA will continue to play a role in facilitating communication between Chinese and foreign doctors, and the doctors who have visited and learned will bring this technology back to their respective countries for the benefit of their people and more patients.
