On December 9, 2016, the preparatory meeting for the World Tumor Ablation Association (WTAA), led by renowned experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, was held grandly at The Purple Palace in Nanjing, China

The preparatory meeting of WTAA (World Tumor Ablation Association) invited renowned experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, including Dr. Peihong Wu from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Prof. Fujun Zhang from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center, Vice President Shui Wang from Jiangsu Province Hospital, Director Xin Ye from Shandong Provincial Hospital, Chairman Sun Liangjun from Nanjing ECO Microwave Systems Engineering Co., Ltd., and Prof. Alexis Kelekis, the Chairman of the WCIO International Committee. These experts are highly regarded in the field of tumor ablation in Asia, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region. They came together to discuss and prepare for the association.
During the meeting, experts engaged in intense discussions regarding the vision, positioning, standards, and implementation of the association. They had in-depth exchanges and reached a consensus. Director Peihong Wu emphasized the need and importance of establishing WTAA in response to the global trend of tumor ablation medicine. The establishment of this platform will promote the internationalization of Chinese ablation technology, influence the global development trends in the field of ablation, and provide a platform for domestic doctors to exchange knowledge and enhance clinical application internationally, ushering in a new era of ablation medical treatment.
Prof. Alexis Kelekis shared the philosophy of WCIO during the meeting. He highly appreciated the internationalization concept of WTAA and stressed the important role of WTAA as a platform for international medical associations in the field of ablation. He also shared the experiences and shortcomings of WCIO, providing valuable insights for the healthy development of WTAA. Experts from both China and abroad actively participated in discussions, contributing their expertise and insights to the development of the association. The basic framework of the association was established, and preliminary cooperation consensus was reached with WCIO.

WTAA envisions uniting ablation experts from around the world to benefit a greater number of patients. Its goals include promoting and disseminating knowledge and technology related to tumor ablation, nurturing talents in the field of tumor technology, and advancing the development of tumor ablation technology. The establishment of the WTAA Academy aims to provide training in tumor ablation theory and techniques, while the WTAA academic platform aims to promote the domestic and international clinical application of tumor ablation. The association actively promotes new achievements and technologies, participates in global academic activities related to tumor ablation, and strives to enhance its academic and research capabilities.
Currently, the world is making efforts to overcome cancer, and tumor ablation technology, as one of the effective minimally invasive treatments for tumors, requires continuous development. With the establishment of WTAA, there will be a push for the advancement of ablation technology in China and the world, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
